Hi everyone! This is Luo-Mu Jie, your sakura king. It's time for your daily dose of sakura madness here on the luomujie blog. I know everyone is excited to see the cherry blossoms in Taiwan, and the time has finally come to officially open the 2020 Sakura Series. Yehey! The biggest, the grandest and most comprehensive coverage of Taiwan's cherry blossom season. Haha!
Just like year you can updates at my Taiwan Cherry Blossoms Ultimate Travel Guide. That's your one-stop shop for all your sakura hunting needs. Where, when, how to go, tips and tricks. All of the answers to your question are located in one super-travelogue. I have written a comprehensive guide not to show off, but to help tourists who find it difficult to decide, which place to visit to see cherry blossoms during their stay in Taiwan. I already put a lot of things there including a dynamic forecast timetable, that changes depending on the actual flowering conditions on Taiwan. Great right? It's a first from the one-man luomujie blog.
Let us now discuss the latest flowering conditions in Pingjing St., the so-called Fuji cherry or cold cherry are now blooming on the alleys of the most famous street in Taipei every spring season. I went there today (Jan. 6, 2020) on Pingjing St. Lane 42 and there weren't much people, so taking pictures was a piece of cake. Less people mean less photobombers. Haha! As expected the sakura on the concrete wall have not opened most of its flowers. I only saw a few and I anticipate the cherry blossoms there to become great in number as soon as the month of January near its end.
Is it ok now to go there and see the flowers? Yes it is! It's a big GO! Just bring some snacks with you. When I went there today, the tent which usually offers local food to tourists was still closed. Even the restaurant in Pingjing St. was not open for business. I'm not sure what will be the case every weekend. But basing it on the number of people visiting now and the current flowering rate (less people, not good to do business in Pingjing St.), it's better to bring food with you than get hungry as you chase every petal of the sakura.
How to go to Pingjing St. Lane 42? MRT Shilin Station -> board Bus 303 in front of Shilin Farmers Association Building bus stop (a short walk from the MRT station). You can also board the bus from MRT Jiantan Station (Red Line) -> Get off the bus at Lun zi wei stop. One-way fare is only NTD 15. The bus could be a mini-bus or a low-floor type.
I will be returning to Pingjing St. when everything has turned pink, and give again another update about the cherry blossoms here on this same blog post.
